Six years ago today, we sadly lost Bill O'Herlihy at the age of just 76. Not yet a year after his retirement from the RTE panel at the 2014 World Cup, the nation was in a state of grief for many weeks. To understand the dismay people still feel as his passing, one only has to recall moments like this.

O'Herlihy was a central part of the some of Ireland's biggest days.

After an eternity, Ireland were finally there. We had reached a World Cup. And England were the opponents. As the nation gathered around the television ahead of one of the most important evenings in Ireland's sporting history, Bill captured the mood of the country perfectly. It was beautiful stuff.
