Ian Holloway Sounds Off On Brighton Fans Who Sang 'Sacked In The Morning'

QPR manager Ian Holloway launched an impassioned rant against Brighton fans and the sheer state of modern football after his side fell to their sixth successive defeat at the Amex Stadium yesterday.

The former Blackpool manager was appointed as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's successor last month, but has thus far failed to spark an upsurge in the Rs' fortunes. Brighton fans, who had seen their side take a 3-0 lead over Holloway's men, began singing about the 53-year-old's job security; a not uncommon theme in terraces across England when an opposing manager's position might be on the precipice of being called into question.

The entertaining Holloway, however, opted not for the typically diplomatic response to Albion fans' chants of 'You're Getting Sacked In The Morning'. Instead, he gave an impassioned interview to BBC Radio 5 live Sport where he ridiculed Brighton fans, who in his belief were still merely bearing a grudge from the 2013 Championship playoffs.

Holloway told 5 live:

People think I'm going to get sacked in the morning... Well that's nice, isn't it? Yeah, hope you enjoy your Christmas, and your new year.

Why don't you just sing something better and something different? I've always been very respectful here.

I didn't mean to beat you in the playoffs. Wasn't my fault, was it? So why don't you just show a bit of respect?

But that's life these days, that's football these days, and that's all... It's all supposed to be instant, isn't it? Well, I've got a lot of young lads in there and they've got to learn. The senior pros have got to teach them. That's what life's all about. Sometimes you do lose, because you're not as good as everybody else.

But it's about getting better. And because football has turned into this instant coffee, which is a load of baloney, I'm going to keep going. Because I know what I'm doing. I've done it before. And hopefully I'll be given that trust to build a club, and build a team, and build a spirit, because that's what we haven't got in there at the minute - is a spirit.
