Former Schalke midfielder Max Meyer is on the verge of joining Premier League club Crystal Palace as a free agent.
Meyer is a German international who refused to sign a contract with Schalke after reports of a dispute with sporting director Christian Heidel. The highly-rated playmaker is only 22 and has been linked with both Liverpool and Arsenal in the past.
German outlet DW reported that Max Meyer's contract demands included a fee over €100,000 per week. Given his age profile and development at Schalke compensation would be required. According to the Guardian, talks between Meyer and Crystal Palace have been successful and he will have a medical today.
It has been a relatively quiet transfer window for Roy Hodgson so far. Damien Delaney and Yohan Cabaye left the club on free transfers while they already signed free agent Vicente Guaita.
