While the surroundings they find themselves may be a bit fancier than the average person, footballers are in the same boat as the rest of us when it comes to staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic.
Many of them have taken to different methods to keep themselves entertained, including gaming streams, making online videos, or just generally acting the maggot. However, one player will fill his time in a far more serious way.
Right up until 2018, there were serious concerns that Heung-Min Son would forfeit a couple of years of the prime of his career in order to serve in the South Korean military. All citizens of the country are required to serve 21 months in the army.
Sportspeople are not exempt from this. The only way to avoid this is to form a service for the country, usually in the form of winning a medal at a significant sporting event.
Son did just that at the Asian Games in 2018, meaning he won't have to do the full 21 months. He will still have to do a shortened four week stint. While it was assumed he would complete this over the next couple of summers, he will now undertake the service during the current gap in the season despite nursing a broken arm.
Spurs have confirmed he has travelled back to South Korea, being placed in a 14-day quarantine before getting underway. He will return to London some time next month.
The club can confirm that Heung-Min Son will commence his mandatory military service in South Korea this month.
The forward arrived back in his home country at the end of March where he is currently in quarantine...
The Premier League has since announced that the 2019/20 season will only return when it is ‘safe and appropriate to do so’ and is under constant review.
Son will return to London following the conclusion of his military service in May.
