Helena Costa has declared that it was her decision to leave her post as head coach of Clermont Foot.
Costa became the first female manager of a professional club in the top two tiers of European football when she took the job at Clermont last month. She was due to take over at the Ligue 2 side next season but stepped down.
The Portuguese woman has been secretive about her reasons for leaving the club so soon into her tenure. She made no startling revelations in a recent press conference.
I had a lot of points that I discussed personally with the president and after that discussion I took my decision.
The president knows exactly what it is and he’s the only person that I have to discuss [it with].
I thought over my holidays so of course I would appreciate if I could continue but it was my decision so I have no reasons to be sad
I hope in the future other opportunities will come.
The future of the former Iran Women's team manger remains up in the air.
