Daniel Taylor of the Guardian has an excellent column every Sunday morning and this morning he highlighted a heart warming tale of how Roy Keane helped his former team mate at Nottingham Forest Gary Charles.
Charles was involved in an accident in 1992 that tragically killed a teenage cyclist and this incident left an indelible mark and despite playing for the likes of Aston Villa and and West Ham afterwards, an addiction to alcohol destroyed his career and his life. A slew of court and prison appearances followed.
Serving a sentence in Rutland prison, Charles received a letter from Keane with an offer of help. When Charles was released he moved in with Keane and his family and Keane invited him to take drills at Sunderland training.
Charles is now working as a scout. Good man Roy and well done Gary.
