Fackin' wheeler-dealer Sensible budgeting Harry Redknapp's brief period in charge of the Jordanian national team has ended in a heavy defeat, as his side lost 5-1 to Australia in their World Cup qualifier. Redknapp agreed to take charge of two games with Jordan.
The first ended in glory: an 8-0 win against Bangladesh that led Redknapp to give a fantastic interview to Jordanian TV, in which he declared that the future was bright for the burgeoning football nation:
Sadly, the bright optimism in the words "Future of Jordan very good" has taken precisely five days to seep away entirely. Redknapp responded to today's hammering to Australia by decrying a lack of talent available to him:
The players did their best. We all did our best but what can you do? I've been here five or six days, what can you do?
The players are the players, I can't suddenly bring in Ronaldo. It is what it is. They tried their best but they were beaten by a better team.
An outstanding change of perspective from 'Arry. Redknapp complaining about a lack of players is nothing news, he is a man who spent his managerial career perpetually 'down to the bare bones'. Sadly, Redknapp was not in charge of the country for long enough to unearth Niko Kranjcar's hitherto unseen Jordanian passport.
We would quite like to have seen Redknapp take permanent charge of Jordan. If ever he was hit on the head by a stray ball at training, he could have threatened that player with relegation to the "fackin' (oil) reserves".
