Jose Mourinho's search for a solution to Manchester United's centre-back problems has reportedly led him to believe Harry Maguire could be the answer.
Both The Times and The Guardian report today that Mourinho is interested in acquiring Maguire.
The 25-year-old's stock rose considerably following impressive performances for England at the World Cup. Maguire proved to be a goalscoring threat from set-pieces along with being a competent ball-playing defender.
Mourinho is said to have doubts about both Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof and also feels that the signing of Diego Dalot from Porto has relieved fullback issues sufficiently to allow the pursuit of a central defender.
According to The Times, Maguire would cost United more than £50 million. He joined Leicester just last summer from Hull on a five-year deal costing an initial fee of £12 million.
The Mirror reports that Mourinho will have to sell a player before signing Maguire with Marcos Rojo - who just signed a new deal at Old Trafford earlier this year - the most likely candidate to leave. They also say that the fee could be as much as £65 million.
