Harry Kane was an unexpected guest on The Tonight Show on Thursday night, and he told Jimmy Fallon of an interesting interaction he had with NFL legend Tom Brady in March.

Brady, the most successful player in Super Bowl history, announced his retirement earlier this year, before announcing a spectacular U-turn weeks later and signing a one-year extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mid-March saw a clip of Brady and Manchester United man Cristiano Ronaldo go viral. The two spoke after Manchester United's 3-2 win over Spurs, and the clip shows Brady appearing to hint that he would in fact be reversing his decision to retire.

On Thursday night, Kane revealed that he too spoke with Brady after that game in Old Trafford, and that he had similar doubts about the quarter back's desire to end his playing career.

Harry Kane: English striker reveals hint of Tom Brady comeback

We'll be honest - of all the guests we were expecting to show up on Jimmy Fallon, Harry Kane wasn't one of them.

The Spurs and England man appeared on the American chat show on Thursday evening, and had a fascinating anecdote about Tom Brady. Kane revealed that he spoke to Brady after Spurs' loss at Old Trafford in March, and received a hint that his retirement was perhaps not all it seemed.

When asked by Fallon whether he knew Brady would come out of retirement, Kane said:

I wasn't 100% sure. He actually came to one of our games in the UK about two months ago, the day before he announced that he was coming back to play. I asked him, 'how are you getting on, how's retirement treating you?' His face was like 'mm, I'm not sure I'm ready yet.'

The next day, he announced it. I thought it was great, I love watching him, and it's great for the sport.

Kane was not the only one to receive a hint about Brady's U-turn.

From that same game in March, footage emerged of Brady dodging a question from Manchester United man Cristiano Ronaldo about his retirement.

On the Tonight Show, Kane was brought to the subject of Brady's retirement U-turn after revealing that the Bucs quarter back was a sporting idol of his in the early stages of his career.

Kane said that he took inspiration from Brady's perseverance during a period of his career when he was struggling between various loan spells.

One thing that did inspire me growing up was a Tom Brady documentary. I was away at another club on loan, I wasn't getting in the team, it was that period in my career where I was 18 years old, 'if I can't play here, how can I play for Tottenham?'

I came across this documentary on YouTube, I think it was called The Brady Six, it was about how he got picked in the sixth round [of the NFL draft], then became one of the greatest sportsmen ever.

It just gave me a real belief that it was possible to go on and have that career.

Kane and Brady have since struck up a friendship. The England striker was in the stadium in Atlanta for Super Bowl LIII in 2019, when Brady and the New England Patriots won their sixth Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams.

Kane was pictured in a Patriots jersey adorned with Brady's name and number, and met Brady and the Patriots squad after their victory.
