"Gutless" was very much the word of the day on Saturday for Daily Mirror columnist Neil McLeman. 7 of the starting 11 were lambasted as "gutless" alongside a varying pejorative epithet, "Useless and gutless", "clumsy and gutless", "anonymous and gutless" etc... A few were spared. He did acknowledge that Lee Cattermole is in possession of "guts." However, he was sadly lacking in the talent stakes. Glowing acclaim, however, was reserved for John O'Shea and Stephen Fletcher. They were, according to McLeman "less gutless than many others." High praise indeed for the day that was in it. As John Giles would no doubt say "Guts is your starting point"
