Atletico Madrid fans enjoyed a hugely satisfying couple of minutes around 8.10 this evening: firstly, Real Madrid fell behind to Bayern Munich, and then Antoine Griezmann gave Atleti a 1-0 lead at home to Leicester City. While there was little doubt about the goal in Bavaria - a thumping header by Arturo Vidal - the opener at the Calderon is mired in controversy.
It came from a penalty, awarded for a clumsy foul on Griezmann by Marc Albrighton. While it was probably a foul, it did appear to be at least a yard outside of the penalty area.
Judge for yourself below.
Leicester have conceded more penalties in the Champions League this season than anyone else, but they are entitled to feel that is harsh. Plenty of others did:
Stupid challenge, but outside the box. Ref 5 yards away. Extraordinary.
