Cabinteely beat Wexford Youths tonight in Stradbrook in their first ever match in the League of Ireland. The result should go some way to staving off the surprising intense blast of bad will their entry into the League generated.
John McKeown fired home the only goal just before half-time.
However, these pictures of the pitch, which were tweeted by Wexford Youths' substitute Danny Furlong, haven't done them any favours in that respect. One would have to sympathise given the difficulties of having to play on a rugby pitch. Hopefully, they can get a handle on things and the surface will improve in time.
Either way, a great win on their first game in League of Ireland football.
Result aside and congrats to Cabinteely they deserved it but this is an embarrassment to league of Ireland football pic.twitter.com/WTE3UhifS0
