Ray Boyne, who was performance analyst with the Dublin footballers between 2004 and 2013, has put together a great bit of research to show how far a player in a ball sport runs on average during a match.

So soccer wins out with GAA coming in second and third but when you analyse it in km/pm, the top three are inseparable. They all run 16 metres a minute on average.

Meanwhile, rugby players only a measly 12 metres a minute.
