The cause of death has been revealed of Grant Wahl by an autopsy report following his death at the World Cup.

The famous American journalist died during the quarter-final between Argentina and the Netherlands. Grant Wahl collapsed during extra-time of the game and died following the game.

Grant Wahl was known for his incredible coverage of football in America for the past two decades. His death brought shockwaves across the world, with tributes across the sporting world.

The 49-year-old was never afraid to ask the big questions in the sport, and constantly put pressure on FIFA when it came to the biggest controversies.

There had been conspiracy theories emerging about his death, including from his brother, who claimed foul play was involved in his death, claiming "he received death threats and was killed."

However, the autopsy report from his wife and renowned infectious disease physician Dr. Céline Gounder revealing his death was from undetected ascending aortic aneurysm

In a statement released earlier today on his Substack page, Dr. Gounder put to bed any possible theories for the death of her husband.

Grant arrived home Monday, December 12, and this transition was handled with the utmost care and sensitivity. This was an international matter that required coordination from multiple agencies domestically and internationally, and there was full cooperation from everyone involved.

Our sincere gratitude to everyone involved in repatriating Grant, in particular the White House, the U.S. Department of State, FIFA, U.S. Soccer and American Airlines.

An autopsy was performed by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office. Grant died from the rupture of a slowly growing, undetected ascending aortic aneurysm with hemopericardium

The chest pressure he experienced shortly before his death may have represented the initial symptoms. No amount of CPR or shocks would have saved him. His death was unrelated to COVID. His death was unrelated to vaccination status. There was nothing nefarious about his death."

Speaking on CBS this morning, she paid thanked the support she has received from people following the death pf Grant Wahl.

To know that he was so loved by so many people, it makes me feel a little bit less alone. It feels like a warm hug when you really need it. Everybody has just been so supportive.

I think for him soccer was just more than a sport. It was this thing that connected people around the world. There's so much about the politics an the culture of the sport.

For him, it was a way of understanding people and where they were coming from."

The findings will hopefully bring some sense of comfort to the family of Grant Wahl. The constant speculation of his death across the media could not have been easy.
