Shamrock Rovers today announced the signing of former Aston Villa striker Graham Burke.
The 23-year-old was yesterday released by Notts County after struggling for game time - he made just two starts for the club this season.
Burke joined Notts County in July 2015 after being released by Aston Villa. The Dubliner, who made his senior debut for Villa in 2012, was part of the club's U19 side which won the NextGen Series in 2012/13.
Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley spoke of Burke as an 'exciting talent'.
Graham [Burke] is a great one to have, his ability as a player is second to none. He’s up there with the best, speaking to him you can tell he’s very mature. I’ve watched him the last few years, he’s a very exciting talent and I am delighted to get him in.
He just needs to work on his fitness, he’s a little behind but that was to be expected after not playing for a while. He’s raring to get going now, he has played European football with Aston Villa and spent some time with Notts County, so he’s coming in with a good deal of experience.
He can play anywhere in the forward attacking role, he’s creative and different to what we already have here. He can create something out of nothing, he’s a really special player. He can play anywhere and is very comfortable on the ball too. Graham is a very impressive player and I know he will impress the fans at Tallaght Stadium.
Burke scored Notts County's Goal of the Season for 2015/16 - beauty in the League Cup against his old side Aston Villa.
Rovers also announced the signing today of Sam Bone. The 19-year-old centre-back, who started his career with Charlton, recently returned to playing football after time out of the game due to cancer.
