Graeme Souness has warned that the Chelsea board could still turn on manager Graham Potter after their poor run of form.
Since Thomas Tuchel's surprise sacking in September, it hasn't been an easy journey for Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge.
Their 2-1 defeat to Fulham means they have won just one of their last ten games, and are currently 10th in the Premier League.
While in other circumstances, Potter's job would be on the line. However, Chelsea are going through a period of transition that requires a lot of patience.
A lot of the team is made up signings in the summer he did not make, such as Pierre-Emerick-Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, who haven't performed to the levels expected of them.
The club is also undergoing a change of identity, with owner Todd Boehly attempting to implement a long term strategy.
Graeme Souness Warns Potter Of Chelsea Board
While it's expected Graham Potter will be given the time to change his fortunes at Stamford Bridge, Graeme Souness wouldn't be surprised to see them turn on the former Brighton manager.
During Roman Abramovich's time as Chelsea owner, the club developed a reputation for sacking managers for not delivering instant success.
Speaking on the Daily Mail, Graeme Souness has expressed his reasons why he doesn't trust the current ownership of Chelsea.
I wish I had a tenner for every time I've heard a club say they are fully behind a manager, and then he gets sacked. What it really means is that, when the flak turns on the board instead of the manager, it will be him sent packing. End of. They're all the same. It is all about self-preservation.
But I do think Potter needs help. Managing Brighton, and making the step to one of the biggest and most glamorous clubs in the world, the job description could not be more different. He looks like he is struggling.
The demands of being at a big football club are so different. I can make the comparison between managing Liverpool and then, with all respect, Blackburn or Southampton.
I then look at the new technical director, Christopher Vivell, and he has no experience of the English game. He may have great knowledge of Europe and beyond, but he will not fully understand the intensity of our game and what qualities are needed for a player to succeed at a big club in the most demanding league in the world.
I just do not understand a lot of the decision-making since the American Todd Boehly took control of Chelsea."
