Graeme Souness wished he was in Glasgow rather than the Sky Sports studio on Sunday afternoon as his former team Rangers won their first Scottish title since 2011.

Rangers didn't even have to step onto the pitch to be crowned champions. Victory came after Celtic failed to beat Dundee United.

Souness's other wish was that Celtic had beaten Dundee United, giving Rangers the chance to win the title at Parkhead in the Old Firm later this month.

"It's been a long time coming," said Souness.

"Celtic have had a period of domination which has been uncomfortable for us Rangers supporters. They thoroughly deserve it. They've been fantastic all season. I just wish I was in Glasgow right now.

"There's part of me that wishes that Celtic had won today so Rangers had to go to Parkhead, them being the in-form team and winning it there, which would have compounded Celtic's problems. I'll take that today.

"Fair play to the players, and the staff. I have to say, the Rangers support... they've had a period that in their history, they've never had turmoil like they've had to experience in the last 10 years, in being thrown out of the league, unfairly in my opinion.

"All the anti-Rangers brigade were coming out of the woodwork up there. When you're in the third tier and you've got 50,000 people turning up to your stadium, that's proper support."

Asked if he had any words of congratulations for Rangers, Roy Keane - who won the 2005/6 league title with Celtic - declined the chance to do so.

"For Rangers? No," said Keane.

"Listen, it's been a tough year for Celtic but they'll bounce back next year like all great clubs do."
