The world's richest club are back in the world's most prestigious competition: Manchester United have won the Europa League with a 2-0 victory over Ajax.

Paul Pogba opened the scoring with the help of a monstrous deflection, while the otherwise poor Henrikh Mkhitaryan brilliantly hooked the ball into the net minutes into the second half to bury a hugely disappointing Ajax.

United were utterly dominant, but as with everything they do, the performance of Pogba came under the microscope after the game.

Graeme Souness - who was the target of Mourinho's ire on Sunday, with a passive aggressive dig at Souness' managerial career after he was critical of Mourinho's complaints about fatigue after a 0-0 draw with Southampton last week -  was on TV3's coverage this evening, ande decided to piss on United's chips with strong criticism of Paul Pogba.

Souness said last week that United had their "pants pulled down" by Juventus in reference to the world record transfer fee, and he was just as critical of the midfielder last night in TV3.

When Tommy Martin described Pogba as "brilliant", Souness cut across him to disagree. Martin then clarified that Pogba was "capable of brilliant moments", Souness then paused, and proceeded to disagree even more strongly.

They weren't brilliant.

I don't see him doing enough things, you spend that kind of money to make a difference in the big games. I don't see him this season changing any of the big games because of the 'brilliance' he's shown.

He does eye-catching stuff, which with all due respect to people who don't understand the game so well, (they) go 'wow, wasn't that great play?'

What I see as a midfield player, an old midfield player, is someone that's not really got a great understanding of the game... I've never seen him run a game.

Souness would go on to criticise United's style of play, adding in disbelief:

My man of the match tonight was Fellaini. I can't believe I'm saying that.
