Republic of Ireland International Kevin Long has signed a new three year contract at Burnley, which will see him remain at the club until 2021.
Long, who was signed by Burnley from Cork City in 2010 had endured a tough time at Turf Moor, as injuries kept his playing time limited and in 2015, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury against Newcastle in a Premier League game which kept him out for most of the 2016/17 season.
The defender recovered from the injury late last season and started Burnley's last three games in the league which then cumulated in him starting his first competitive game for Ireland in their 1-1 draw in Dublin against Austria last June.
Long who is now Burnley's longest serving player is delighted to have signed his new deal, he told Burnley's website:
I am delighted. It’s been going on for quite a while now so it’s nice to get it signed and look forward to the next three years.
It caps what’s been a fabulous few months for me. Coming into the team at the end of last season was great and them to make my international debut for Ireland over the summer was a dream.
Here at Burnley, we’ve secured another season in the Premier League, so this is a club going in the right direction and it’s a pleasure to be a part of that.
I’ve been here a long time and probably haven’t played as much as I’d have liked, so hopefully in the next three years I can play a lot more and go from strength to strength.
Long looks set be one of the starting centre backs for Burnley's upcoming campaign in the Premier League as The Clarets sold Michael Keane to Everton during the summer for a fee of £25 million.
Burnley have a strong Irish contingent at the club after signing Jon Walters from Stoke this summer and they already have Robbie Brady, Stephen Ward and Jeff Hendricks in their ranks.
