Gonzalo Higuain Blasts Napoli Chairman For "Pushing Him" Into Joining Juventus

Juventus have wasted absolutely no time in spending the Paul Pogba money... By splashing the cash before it has even come into the club.

As we await official confirmation on Pogba's return to Old Trafford, Juve have been going about building a squad to compete for the Champions League next season as well as attempting to win their sixth consecutive Serie A title. The acquisition of Gonzalo Higuain will certainly help with that.

Higuain bagged a stunning 36 league goals last term, breaking a record that stood for 66 years, but he had been criticised for allegedly leaving the club without saying goodbye to his former teammates or any of the club's staff. Well now we know why, as Higuain has claimed that while he ultimately decided to leave, he was pushed out of the door by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

And he didn't mince his words either:

I've remained silent in recent days, but these have been three amazing years and I can only say thanks for all the love I was given, but this was a decision I took for my own reasons. I can understand that they are angry with me and I've seen the insults, but it is something I had to do and I'm happy about it.

Sarri made me grow and he has been a great coach for me, and if he's angry about me leaving without saying goodbye to him, then I apologise. I can only thank him.

It was my decision to leave, but it was [De Laurentiis] who pushed me into making it. I'd like to thank the fans and my teammates, but not De Laurentiis. I no longer had a relationship with him; I couldn't stand another minute with him.

Napoli fans have been attaching their Higuain jerseys to bins around the city as they have made it very clear what they think of his decision to leave for Juve.

While he will return to an extremely hostile reception in Naples with his new club next season, it seems apparent that the club's chairman was very interested in getting him to leave once the fee for his services became clear.

A messy situation, there will now be a lot of expectation on the Argentinian to bang the goals in for the Old Lady in the new campaign.
