Glenn Whelan's First-Half Performance Was Absolutely Slated On Social Media

Tonight was a big night for Glenn Whelan as the Stoke City midfielder wore the captain's armband and lead Ireland out for our crucial playoff showdown against Bosnia.

Whelan divides opinion at the best of times among Irish fans, but after two misplaced passes inside the first 10 minutes, the knives were out on twitter.

Bosnia looked comfortable in the first half, and it quickly became clear that the built up frustration as Ireland began to sink deeper and deeper into their own half was directed pretty much at Whelan alone.

As bad as he may have been in possession, it's disappointing to see so many turn their attention to one player, and our captain on the night no less.

Seems a tad harsh to us.
