Manchester United are in the market for some new recruits this summer, but their pursuit of Jadon Sancho appears to have hit a snag.

It had been thought that the club were close to agreeing a deal for the 20-year old a couple of weeks ago. It was suggested that personal terms for the had been already settled and that the two clubs were very close on coming to an agreement on a transfer fee.

Since then, the only thing that has happened is Borussia Dortmund insisting that Sancho will remain in Germany for the 2020/21 season.

Dortmund are refusing to lower their €120million asking price, while Manchester United seem reluctant to pay such a premium having been taken advantage of in the transfer market on numerous occasions in the recent past.

It was thought Ed Woodward was the one that would not sign off on the deal, but the instructions may actually be coming from even higher up.

According to The Athletic, Joel Glazer is the one who does not want Manchester United to meet Jadon Sancho's full asking price.

It is thought that he wants to cut down on the club's major expenditure, especially with covid-19 affecting things such as matchday revenue. However, dividends continued to be paid to shareholders.

United's American owners have been villainised by the Old Trafford support, who feel they are only interested in making as much money as they can from the club.

Their reluctance to spend big on Sancho is unlikely to go down well, especially when you consider that the club are still well off competing with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. The Glazers will perhaps point to past mistakes in the transfer market, but they have also done little to correct those errors via personnel changes at board level.

Players of Sancho's calibre certainly don't come cheap, with Dortmund knowing that United have a track record of eventually paying the full asking price for players they want. If this is the deal they decide to pass up on, they can expect plenty of backlash.
