A Wales XI which some pundits claimed was the strongest in their history had to rely on Gareth Bale last night, as they barely ground out an away win over Andorra at their well-appointed Estadi Nacional.
The part-timers took the lead when the goal line official appeared to inform the referee of a foul by Neil Taylor on Andorra’s Cristian Martínez. The spot kick was converted by veteran Ildefons Lima, their centre back and record goalscorer (8) who scored a header at Lansdowne Road in 2001 to put his side 0-1 up (Ireland went on to win 3-1).
The Andorran joy was short-lived, as Bale soon tucked away a beautiful header after an excellent delivery from Ben Davies. His winning free kick on 81 minutes also showed his class, even if the goalkeeping was far from exemplary.

If his free kick was classic Bale, his celebration was typical of ... Cristiano Ronaldo?
