We wholeheartedly endorse Santiago Vergini's election as some sort of Premier League cult figure after this. Southampton's 8-0 win over Sunderland has definitely gone down as the result of the day in the Premier League and in terms of sheer humiliation, it doesn't get much better/worse than the goal that put the Saints 2-0 in front.
Sunderland's Argentine defender will take some beating in the race for the non-existant Premier League own goal of the season award. So much for the myth that defenders can't finish.
