Former Arsenal winger Gervinho has taken aim at Arsene Wenger due to the treatment he received while working under the French manager at The Emirates
After arriving from Lille in 2011 for a fee in the region of £11m, much was expected of one of the most impressive players from the previous Ligue 1 season. Gervinho, however, never settled in England, and was sold to AS Roma at the start of the 2013 season, where he has since gone on to flourish as Roma have emerged as the main challengers to Juventus' domination in Serie A.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Gervinho has, for the first time, spoken of his time in England and how he currently feels towards Arsenal, and he has not held anything back.
He [Wenger] never had confidence in me. Garcia [manager of Roma] doesn't differentiate between those who are playing and those who aren't playing. That’s important for a player. He doesn't only speak to those who are playing, he talks to everyone as there are 25 players in the squad, not just 11.
Gervinho explained how he has feelings of regret over the whole the situation, as he continued:
As a child I dreamed of playing for Arsenal, because I loved them. Now I don't hate them for the way Wenger treated me, however, I regretted leaving the club after such a short time without being able to show my worth, which I’m now doing at Roma instead.
The Ivory Coast international is now a key member of the AS Roma who sit three points behind Juve at the top of the Serie A table.
