Northern Ireland's World Cup dream is over after they lost out to Switzerland 1-0 on aggravate. While their campaign comes to an end, there was much to be appreciated about the effort of both their players on the field and their fan in the commentary box, in the form of Gerry Armstrong.
Armstrong was on co-commentary for both legs, and after a first leg where he went as far as to claim that Switzerland captain Stephan Lichtsteiner was time wasting because of his 'latin blood', some football fans would have tuned in on Sunday night just to hear Armstrong again.
Gerry's biased commentary is certainly more entertaining than a boring co-commentator who will just churn out cliches, and viewers couldn't help but notice his unconventional style and celebrate it on social media:

Gerry is about 17 seconds away from burning a Swiss flag here.

Gerry Armstrong is the most biased commentator I’ve ever heard it’s comical

Gerry Armstrong is watching a whole different game to everyone else. Every Swiss challenge is reckless and Northern Ireland are Real Madrid.

Gerry Armstrong could head the North Korean media campaign. Such fair, balanced and unbiased views.

Gerry Armstrong is calling the Northern Ireland players by their first names and he doesn’t give a shit

Gerry Armstrong's gonna be on the pitch in a minute. He's vexed

Armstrong is usually outstanding as a La Liga Commentator, although seems to adopt a different persona when his own country is involved.
Still, there'll be no changing him, and as long as you're not supporting the side Northern Ireland are playing it's harmless fun... For the most part.
