Emre Can has had a fickle career at Liverpool. The German tank has looked impressive in patches but has struggled for consistency following his move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014. The midfielder has not signed a new contract and all signs point to Can leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
Well it seems as if Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Can will indeed leave the Anfield club in the Summer. Speaking on BT Sport during their coverage of the PSG Real Madrid tie, Gerrard seemed to confirm that the German would not be at the club next season. The former Liverpool captain was talking about Liverpool's midfield comings and goings when he dropped the bombshell:
Well we have to wait and see what happens Emre Can is leaving, obviously Keita's coming in

Whether Gerrard has had a minor slip of the tongue is debatable, though for all intents and purposes Can has given no great assurances that he is willing to extend his contract at the Merseyside club.
In an interview with Sky Sport Italia Can has hinted that him and his agent are still talking to Liverpool regarding a new deal but you wonder if the German is simply paying lip service to his current employers:
Of course I’m talking with Liverpool. Why not? I still have a contract here. It’s an amazing club. What can I say? My agent does the rest.
I just concentrate on the scene, on my performance and the football. I will give everything for this team.
