German football fans have come up with a novel way of enjoying the World cup by hauling their settees into the home ground of second division side 1 FC Union Berlin.
Gerald Ponesky, the man behind this ingenious idea, said it came to him while he was listening to fans singing.
‘It was something like “my home”, “my living room”, and somehow it clicked,’ he revealed.
12,000 spectators watched on as Brazil beat Croatia 3-1 in the opening game of the 2014 World Cup and authorities have even decided to erect 3500 square metres of wallpaper to go around the big screen to complete the experience.
Ponesky said of the success, 'Sofa so good'*.
