Nicolas Kuhn is probably the most popular name in the green half of Celtic right now, as the young playmaker scored a brace last night to record a historic Champions League victory.

The Scottish champions weren't given much hope against RB Leipzig who are performing really well in the Bundesliga and currently sit higher than last year's champions Bayern Leverkusen.

After another German team, Borussia Dortmund, hammered Celtic 7-1 earlier in the competition, the stage looked set for another one sided defeat.

Christoph Baumgartner scored an early header to give the away team the lead, and the same old story looked to be in motion, but Kuhn had other ideas, scoring the equaliser and then getting another in a 3-1 win.

Not impressed by their team's performance or the quality that Brendan Rodger's side showed, the German media outlet BILD even went as far as describing Kuhn as a "no-name professional."

In fact, they even put it in their headline, and went on to describe the defeat as an 'embarrassment.'

“In Glasgow, Leipzig was embarrassed by a German no-name professional – who, of all people, was trained in RB’s youth team.

"Nicolas Kühn (24/played in Leipzig from 2015 to 2018) decided the match with a brace.”

If they need any help finding out the name of the professional in question, al they need to do is look at the scoresheet and they will see it... twice.

The fact that Kuhn is German and a former RB Leipzig academy player, perhaps made the manner of the defeat sting even more.

Another German media outlet called Tag 24, offered a more balanced report, but still couldn't resist calling the Celtic star a "spoilsport."

"RB Leipzig has forgotten how to play the Champions League - and Nicolas Kuhn of all people is the spoilsport. You couldn't write it.

"It was already discussed beforehand: Nicolas Kuhn could become a bogeyman for the Saxons in Celtic Glasgow's Champions League match against his former club RB Leipzig. And yes, that is exactly what happened in the first half.

"In the 35th minute, the Rasenballer youth player hit the ball perfectly just outside the penalty area with a beautiful individual move, so that the ball flew unstoppably against the left post and from there into the net.

"After a pass from the left through the entire penalty area, Kuhn was in the right place again and even made it 2-1 from close range. Incredible."

Despite Celtic's humiliating defeat to Dortmund, their Champions League record so far this season has been quite good, and a draw with last year's Europa League winners Atalanta shows just how fat they have come in Europe.

Of course it is hard to get a good reading of who will make the knockout stages or not because we are not quite used to this new Champions League format, but the Bhoys are certainly in the hunt.
