Gerard Pique is back talking to the English media again. His experience of having played for both Manchester United and Barcelona leaves him much in demand.
Like Roy Keane, Pique played under two feted managers and thus is frequently asked to compare them. Unlike Roy Keane, Pique is widely trusted to be able to answer the question honestly and without rancour.
Today, him and his old mucca Rio Ferdinand had a natter in a room dedicated to Pique's achievements. In the course of the chat, Rio asked him to compare Fergie with Guardiola.
Essentially, Fergie was a delegator and an overseer whereas Guardiola was a youthful training ground manager. Pique puts this down to their respective ages.
When I was at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson was already 20 years at Manchester United so he took the position of the coach in a different style to Guardiola. Guardiola was really young, it was his first years as a first team coach and he was really intense every training, you cannot imagine. Sir Alex Ferguson, when I was there, I remember Quieroz as the guy who took the training. He (Fergie) was like more outside, controlling everything, you know what I mean? It's a different position.
