There's a buzz in the air, a sense of positivity amongst the people walking around the streets of Ireland.

We weren't quite sure how to put it, until we saw this tweet from the brilliant Una Mullally, and suddenly it all made sense.

It really is!

Here are six reasons why:

1. People are wearing badges and showing their colours with pride.

You couldn't own a garment of clothing in Ireland during the summer of 1990 without a big green shamrock on it, and today the streets are littered with people proudly displaying their YES badges.

2. The eyes of the World are on us.

At Italia 90 it was Ireland's first appearance at a World Cup, and today Ireland becomes the focus of attention for Worldwide news reporting on the marriage referendum. We didn't disappoint then, let's hope we don't disappoint now.

3. Flags. Flags everywhere.

The tricolour then, the rainbow now. Businesses are getting involved and showing their support and all.

4. Everybody is saying "C'Mon Ireland!"

"Give it a lash" doesn't really work but shouts of "c'mon Ireland!" are all over social media, and while there was no twitter back in 1990, that phrase was shouted more than any in pubs all over the country.

5. If the result doesn't go how we hope it does, there is still a moral victory to be taken.

There is a chance that the No vote will win. While it's hard to imagine, just like defeat to Italy was, the extremely vocal support for the Yes campaign does show that Ireland has a large number of people who are open to equality for all. But lets hope it doesn't come to moral victories again, we've had enough of them.

6. If the vote passes, we'll see scenes like this!

C'MON IRELAND!
