Scotland has been a notoriously difficult place for League of Ireland graduates to make their mark with as many returning across the Irish Sea as staying there.

That said, Aberdeen's Irish duo are certainly making names for themselves as the Scottish Premier League side continue to defy the odds with their sensational start to the season.

Aberdeen are currently second in the SPL table, level on points with first-place Celtic, with both sides record only blemished by Saturday's thrilling 2-2 draw with each other.

While Celtic were expected to end Aberdeen's run of form and lived up to that with their two goals before the half-hour mark, a gallant second-half comeback from The Dons saw the affair levelled by the time the clock struck sixty.

Despite the last-minute merchant Adam Idah coming on for the Celts, nothing could separate the two sides who had to split the spoils and the table's top place.

Gavin Molloy puts hand up for Ireland call up

While Celtic's Adam Idah and Liam Scales might be familiar with Heimir Hallgrímsson's new regime, Aberdeen's Dubliner Gavin Molloy isn't, with the former League of Ireland star uncapped by Ireland at any age.

However, his performances in the club's sensational start to the season, have raised plenty of questions about whether he should feature for Ireland in their upcoming November international window.

The former Shelbourne star who made the move to Scotland this summer much to the dismay of Damien Duff, is yet to miss a minute of their unbeaten start to the Scottish Premier League and has also featured in all their cup games, with the defender proving pivotal to their current run.

While Molloy has copped the blame for Celtic's second on Saturday, the centre-half reacted brilliantly in the second half, earning himself a 94% pass completion rate among the multitudes of dangerous Celtic crosses that he cleared to keep Aberdeen fighting in Celtic Park.

Whether Molloy's outstanding start to the season will be enough to earn a call-up to Hallgrímsson's side only time will tell, however, if he and Aberdeen continue their current run it'll certainly be hard for Heimir to ignore the Dubliner.
