Gary Neville used to bring his own bowl, spoon and Weetabix with him to United matches throughout his career. This is just one of the tremendously silly revelations from his interview about food with The Guardian.
The former United right-back told them 'The other players liked to tease me about travelling with my own bowl, spoon and Weetabix. I didn't eat Weetabix as a child; I didn't really like any cereals. But as a professional footballer, Weetabix became my thing.'
The interview comes very much out of left field and if it weren't from such a reputable source as The Guardian you'd be forgiven for thinking it's a spoof.
Neville tells of how David Beckham would always cook for him in their early United days and that the players used to have food fights at Christmas time 'We had food fights at United at the Christmas lunch. The older players would throw mince pies at the young ones.'
According to Neville, Phil doesn't have a notion how to cook, while Gary's wife is worse. When he isn't at home, she gets her dad to come around and cook for her. He also reveals that Ben Foster is constantly slow roasting stuff and marinading fish:
When you're from Lancashire you just stick it in and when it comes out dry you eat it. You don't bloody marinade. It's as simple as that.
