Gary Neville's stint in management sounds like it's going to be a short one. Speaking to Sky Sports, the current Valencia boss said that head coaching and management is not his 'ultimate goal'.
It is an incredibly refreshing interview, one informed by his time working in the media. Talking about speculation linking him with the England job and his immediate refusal of such rumours, Neville said that he did not want to sound like his was 'blagging'.
I didn't want to blag my way through the answers and come across as someone who's looking clever.
He will be on TV tonight, though not in the role we usually associate with him on Sky Sports. He will be on the touchline as Valencia take on Real Madrid at the Mestalla.
The opportunity to coach in La Liga is one that he could not turn down. For Neville, it is all about the experience.
Even though it's a risk. People would say it's a gamble doing this. I think it would be a bigger risk not doing it. It would be a gamble not doing it. Looking back and thinking that I missed the opportunity to coach in this league at a big club. It's something from my point of view that I wanted to do.
Being on the sideline is a completely different view for the former Man Utd player. For him, the toughest aspect of management so far is when to make substitutions.
The decision is, the timing of your substitutes; being on that touchline thinking 'Should I, shouldn't I?'
