Fresh from being culpable for the reconstitution of Gary Neville's Valencia as merely Valencia, Gary Neville is in the news today as he has put his Bolton mansion up for sale. It can be yours for a the €3.73 million you find down the back of your couch. The house is described as " 9,900 square feet of sumptuous accommodation nestled within the rolling Lancashire countryside".

Undoubtedly the most important aspect of the house, however is this:
The reason the swimming pool is so important is that it was the venue for a fantastic story, as a couple of Liverpool fans sealed their dislike of Neville for posterity. A few years ago, Neville had the pool retiled, and unwittingly/foolishly paid Liverpool fans to do the job. The true extent of Neville's flawed choice was revealed by the bulders in the aftermath to Liverpool fanzine The Kop Magazine:
We went to Neville-Neville land to tile his swimming pool. It's blood money I know but needs must. While we were there we rolled up The Kop magazine in a sealed plastic tube along with a Liverpool scarf to create our own Scouse time capsule.
We buried it under the swimming pool floor before tiling over it.
In future years, when his house is dug up, archaeologists will be able to see what a passion he had for the Red Men.
It appears the builders merely did it as a prank and not for the benefit of headline-writers everywhere. The Manchester Evening News happily went with 'Liver-Pool Prank On Neville'.
The Red Men referred to above are Liverpool, but owing to the fact the house is now on the market, it appears that when excavations are finally done, Neville will be exonerated of any affection for Liverpool.
The time capsule has, however, been saved by the internet, as everything written online about the fan's actions will exist in the ether forever.
Unfortunately for Neville, the same goes for his managerial record with Valencia.
