It is not a secret that Marouane Fellaini is no fan favourite at Old Trafford but it was still sobering to hear him warm-up to a chorus of boos from his own fans against Tottenham this afternoon.
The Belgian made his way down the sideline as the game was nearing to a close. But for those Manchester United supporters in attendance, they quickly got flashbacks of last weekend when Fellaini cost his side two points as he gave away a late penalty against Everton having being on the pitch for just two minutes.
Gary Neville - who was commentating for Sky Sports at the time - was unimpressed by what he was hearing as boos resounded throughout the stadium;
Booing Fellaini, that's poor to see.
Yet, it would not be the last time that fans would have the opportunity to voice their disdain for the midfielder. The crowd stood to their feet as Ander Herrera was substituted deep into injury time before the atmosphere turned vitriolic as Fellaini replaced him.
I want Fellaini gone as much as anyone but it takes a special type of moron to boo him at Old Trafford. Embarrassing. #MUFC

I was never a fan of LVG but never once did I boo, booing fellaini lacks class. Too many glory fans.
NEVER BOO ONE OF YOUR OWN! #mufc— Danny Khader (@dannykhader) December 11, 2016
José Mourinho gave his opinion on the ordeal in the post-match press conference;
I accept it [the booing] because from the fans you have to accept everything. They had in mind Everton mistake, no more.
It's a catch-22 situation for a lot of paying supporters as the match is their only opportunity to voice their concerns in such an effective manner but to think that Fellaini would be unjust. The Old Trafford faithful can state that "he's not a United calibre player" as much as they want but truth be told that's not on him. His potential is limited but the anger should be turned towards management for making the decision, not the individual.
And in fairness to Fellaini, he was faultless when he came on this afternoon.
It's a shame that it overshadows an efficient United performance as they secure their first Premier League victory at home since the 24th of September. See goal below.
