It was an empathically one-sided game that reinforced just how far the club has fallen in recent months. Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville was left stunned by an "absolutely awful" Man United who failed to execute basic footballing requirements.

He took particular issue with the club's midfield.

Graeme Souness was similarly critical, describing their style of play as "hanging on football."
The club do have a favourable run of fixtures to come, with Cardiff City, Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Newcastle to come. But for Mourinho and Manchester United, their glaring issues were never as apparent as they were in Anfield today.
