England may have snuck over the line in their Euro 2024 last 16 clash against Slovakia this evening, but they will not be pleased with many aspects of their performance in the 2-1 extra-time victory.

Gareth Southgate's side offered almost nothing in an attacking sense throughout the match, with their first shot on target being Jude Bellingham's equaliser in the 95th minute.

Despite this, their manager was slow to make changes. Southgate made one change around the 65th minute, bringing on Cole Palmer. After that, he would not make another until the 84th minute, with Ivan Toney also coming on in the 94th minute.

The introduction of Toney certainly seemed like a desperation move from England, although he would go on to play a role in both goals soon after. As it turns out, the player himself was not that pleased with the way he was treated during the game,

Ivan Toney would end up playing over half an hour in the game, but it looked as though he would only see around 90 seconds of action when he initially came on.

Speaking to ITV, Gareth Southgate revealed that the striker was 'disgusted' to be asked to come on at such a late stage in the match.

I never felt tonight would be the end of my tournament. Even with the long throw (for Bellingham's equaliser) there was hope, we can cause some chaos and something might drop.

I didn't think the finish would be quite what it was. There's no question that Ivan Toney was pretty disgusted when I put him on with a minute to go. I think we have made up now.

He had a big impact on the second goal as well...

I think if you put a sub on at that time it's a complete last roll of the dice, he may not even touch the ball. I completely understand it, I don't like putting a player in that position.

But I just had a feel that he might be able to cause the bit of chaos that happened.

He didn't seem to mind too much in the end.

This was Ivan Toney's first appearance of Euro 2024, having been an unused substitute during each of England's group games. He will be hoping that the impact he made in this game will see him be given another chance to impress in the quarter-final against Switzerland.
