Oisin Smyth was as cool as a cucumber when he slotted home a penalty against Rangers for St Mirren in a shock 2-1 win yesterday.
The victory means that St Mirren are 12 points behind leaders Celtic, and it puts Glasgow Rangers in a very sticky situation.
Smyth wasn’t just a talented soccer player, but was once a very promising Gaelic footballer, probably best known for winning The Hogan Cup back in 2018.
The multi-talented youngster played a starring role for St Ronan’s Lurgan as they beat St Mary’s in the All-Ireland final that year.
With the game on a knife edge, Smyth picked up the ball in the 51st minute, and despite being so far from the opposition goal, it was clear that he had points on his mind.
Croke Park stood in amazement as the then teeneager swung over an almighty point that will live long in memory.

However, soccer became Smyth’s priority after that, and he signed for Irish League side Dungannon Swifts, the same team that helped Liverpool’s Conor Bradley kick start his career.
After impressing at that level, the sharp shooter was signed by St Mirrens to play in the Scottish Premier League, and scoring against a club like Rangers would have been a massive accomplishment for him, especially as he picked up the Man of the Match award as well.
Funnily enough, another northern Irishman got on the scoresheet as well, as West Belfast native Caolan Boyd-Munce scored the winner, and Rangers seem to be slipping away from the title race.
Celtic kept up their decent form by beating Motherwell 4-0 in a comfortable win that means they are 12 points clear at the top of the table.
