Frankie Dettori is Clare Balding's guest on her BT Sport show this week. The flat jockey told the host a funny story about occurrence involving him and some Wimbledon players during the 90s.
Dettori, friends with Vinnie Jones, met up with the 'Crazy Gang' who were having their post-season party at Epsom for the Derby.
The Italian offered some of his insight for the final race of the following day's meeting. This horse was a nailed on certainty, an Epsom specialist. Come the next day, the sure thing finished second, beaten on the line by Dettori.
Dettori takes up the story:
I'll go and have a quick drink with the lads, see how they're doing. They had a few during the afternoon [mimics drinking a pint]. They were fuming that they were beaten to second.
So they thought it was a great idea to grab me by the ankles and dangle me over the balcony. But at the time, I didn't think it was so funny because they were all a little bit drunk. When I looked down, it was three floors high and there was concrete.
Anyway, I stopped giving tips to those crazy people.
A sensible policy change from Frankie.
