Foolish, petulant behaviour from Jonjo Shelvey.
Newcastle United's return to the Premier League has gotten off to a difficult start after the midfielder was dismissed in the 48th minute for a stamp on Tottenham's Dele Alli.
After a goalless first half, Newcastle remained firmly in the game against last season's Premier League runners-up. With Alli on the deck after a challenge, Shelvey went to retrieve the ball.
Alli poked the ball out of his reach and Shelvey stepped on his ankle on his way to getting passing over the England international.

As you can see from the second angle, the referee's view of the incident couldn't be better. Tottenham scored twice in the following half hour - including an Alli goal - and look on course to get their campaign off to a winning start.
