Manchester United are set to have a very busy end to the transfer window. The club's supporters will be hoping that their season kicks into gear after the victory over Liverpool on Monday evening, while they also want to see some new faces come through the door before the month is up.

Casemiro looks set to make his debut tomorrow at Southampton and it is unlikely that he will be the only addition.

It has been reported that the club are set to submit an offer of over €90million for Ajax winger Antony. That seems like an incredibly high fee for a player of his pedigree, although that will matter little to the fan who are desperate to see some improvements to the squad.

They have also been linked with a loan move for Martin Dubravka as a backup goalkeeper, with a €40million deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo also mooted.

However, not all are convinced that those players should consider a move to Old Trafford.

Rene Meulensteen warns players away from Manchester United

Rene Meulensteen is a player that knows Manchester United well, acting as a first team coach for six years under Alex Ferguson, as well as lengthy stints in their academy.

He left along with Ferguson in 2013 and has since been a vocal critic of the way they have conducted their business.

Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, the current Australia assistant manager warned fellow Dutchman Cody Gakpo that a move to Manchester United could end up being disastrous for his career.

Manchester United’s transfer policy is a big mess.

They’ve been chasing Frenkie de Jong for so long, that didn’t go through. Then they wanted Adrien Rabiot, that didn’t work either. Marko Arnautovic didn’t either.

They are still trying to get Antony and Cody Gakpo, but I also have my doubts about that. Those guys are fantastic in the Eredivisie, but that is no guarantee that they can continuously make a difference here.

If I were Gakpo, I would say, 'Thank you for the honour but I’m staying with PSV'. I would say to him: 'Boy, there are more clubs coming… at PSV you had the chance to play Champions League, you’re on that [path]'. At the moment I’m not sure about Manchester United.

At 23-years old, a move to Old Trafford would certainly be a big moment at this stage in Cody Gakpo's career. He has spent his entire career at PSV, making his international debut in 2021.

It remains to be seen if Manchester United will sanction moves for both him and Antony, with the arrival of both leaving them rather overstocked in terms of wingers.
