The Clan na Gael GAA side from Dundalk has a surprise visitor on the Thursday evening before their Intermediate final with O'Connells. It was former Arsenal and Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann. He had been in the area after being invited by a local man, Alan Clarke, who works with a sports science company involved with the German national team.
After kicking around for an hour with a local soccer team, Lehamnn visiting the Clan na Gael GAA club who were preparing for a county final on the following Sunday.
Clan na Gael PRO Maurice Harrison said:
Alan is a former Clans player and he convinced Jens to call around to the boys on Thursday evening to give them a few words of advice for Sunday’s final. He spoke to the lads for about fifteen minutes telling them to keep focused and how to cope with the pressure of big games. He had a pint of Guinness with us and signed autographs and posed for photos and all that. It was a bit surreal but it was great to meet him and we’d all like to thank Alan for making it happen
Unfortunately, Clan na Gael lost the final to O'Connells 1-9 to 1-7.
O'Connells probably had Oliver Kahn doing their motivational speech.
