Where do I start?
A person has put their spare time to great use by simulating 1,000 years of Football Manager to see what the state of football will be like come 3015.
The findings are astounding. Here is just a snapshot of what we can expect to happen.
- Sheffield United are the most successful club in English football history
- Burnley are not far behind, winning the Champions League 42 times
- Coventry City hold the world transfer record
- Lincoln City have went 740 Europa League matches (370 seasons) without a win
- England win the World Cup 41 times
- Maidstone, Bromley and Southend each win the Premier League more times than Chelsea
Yes, Sheffield United rise to become a dominant force, winning not far off one in every five Premier League titles for the next 1,000 years. Their record of 167 Premier League titles is rivalled only by Burnley with 138, followed by Barnsley with 93.
When it comes to the current big four in real life, only Arsenal leave any sort of impressive legacy, with 73 league titles.
Meanwhile, it would seem Coventry City will become the big spenders in English football in the not too distant future, breaking the world transfer record in 2055. A record which still stands come 3015.
So how about the clubs with a big Irish fan base? While the football landscape will be vastly different come 3015 in Ireland - one would imagine Robbie Keane will be at least on the verge of signing for Shamrock Rovers by that stage - we'll pretend for a second that the most supported Premier League clubs at present will remain so.
Man United will win 33 league titles, almost double Liverpool's 16. Meanwhile Leeds United will achieve nothing of note and Aston Villa fans will have to settle for one FA Cup and two League Cups.
Elsewhere, in Scotland, Celtic has an average attendance of 446,715. Yea, you heard me! Also, before you ask, Ireland will never finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd at the World Cup. Shite.
The whole thing is all a bit mental really and you can read all about it on his Reddit thread here. If you want to know how your club fares over the next 1,000 years give us a shout on Twitter and we'll get back to you.
