Football at -18C: The Coldest Football Club in the World

Here's a pretty 'cool' feature on Rovaniemen Palloseura, a club that is based on the Arctic Circle, in Finland.

They regularly play in temperatures as low as -18C. The club plays in the top tier of the Finnish league. In the video below we learn that players from Nigeria, Mexico and El Salvador have recently been recruited. Whatever about the home grown players who would be used to the harsh conditions, these guys have come from much warmer climates.

The club is steeped in controversy with 9 players having been convicted for match fixing in 2011. They last played in Europe in the 1990-91 UEFA Cup but were knocked out in the first round.

Carlos Tevez infamously fumed at the bad weather in Manchester. Perhaps a season on loan in the Arctic Circle would do him the world of good.
