Sturm Graz goalkeeper Benedikt Pliquett has become the first Sturm Graz goalkeeper to lick a goalpost during an Austrian league game (There were probably a couple of unnecessary qualifications there). We are open to correction.
According to Pliquett, he was moved to lick the goalpost because he is a diabetic. He got a blade of grass in his mouth when drinking some water and decided that since he was wearing gloves, the option of removing the grass from his mouth the traditional way was closed to him. Therefore, the only option open to him was to roll his tongue up and down the goalpost.
This type of romantic ardour toward a goalpost has rarely been seen by goalkeepers. Edwin Van Der Sar wasn't even moved to go this far after John Terry's effort in Moscow five and a half years ago...
