Fantasy Football Gameweek 2 Preview - Too Soon For A Wildcard?

Gameweek 1 of Barclays Premier League Fantasy Football is in the books, and the majority of players were left disappointed with their decisions as the average score was just 47 points.

Is it too early to play your wildcard?

Yes.

Don't be that guy who plays his one potential game-changer after the first bloody week. So you got it totally wrong, deduct eight points from your already crap score by picking three transfers that can turn your fortunes around.

Who To Sign:

James Chester - Defender - Hull City

No nonsense centre-back James Chester was the highest scoring defender in week one, and looks to be an integral part of Steve Bruce's side. Chester bagged himself a goal, a clean sheet, and a man of the match bonus against QPR, and this week Hull are at home to Stoke City who struggled to create chances against Aston Villa. At only 4.6m he is definitely worth a punt.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - Midfielder - Swansea

If you were not one of the many managers who saw an absolute bargain in Swansea's creative midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, then correct your mistake. The Iceland international is now the most 'Transferred In' player in fantasy football, which has seen his price rise by 0.2m to a still cheap as chips 6.2m. Swansea are at home to Burnley this week, for the love of God just pick him.

Saido Berahino - Forward - West Brom

Recommended

Few will have expected West Brom and England U21 striker Saido Berahino to have as good a gameweek as he did in gameweek 1, that said, it seems as though he is West Brom's first choice striker as the transfer window nears it's deadline. Berahino is also apparently on penalty duty for the Baggies, which makes him a very attractive prospect at just 5.6m. If you spent big in midfield and on your first two strikers, Berahino looks like the best bet for a bench striker.

Who To Ditch:

Geoff Cameron - Defender - Stoke

Team USA Mens National Team Soccer defender Cameron looked a really good pick for fantasy football this season, as one of last season's best performers only cost 4.5m, but Mark Hughes had different plans. Cameron didn't start against Aston Villa and he wasn't one bit please about it, as he apparently is demanding a move away. He probably won't play again this week, so if you are one of the 13.3% of managers who have him picked, it's probably a good time to drop him before his stock plummets.

Felipe Luis - Defender - Chelsea

It's too soon for Felipe Luis. The former Atletico left-back is apparently being given time to adapt to life in England before seeing some Premier League action, and with the consistently solid Cesar Azpilicueta doing consistently solid work, it might be a while before Luis gets any points. Spend that 6.0m elsewhere.

Olivier Giroud - Forward - Arsenal

Many thought Arsenal's French frontman Giroud would easily be first choice striker to start this season, with no out-and-out strikers signed for the London club, but Arsene Wenger decided to opt for Yaya Sanogo. Why? We will never know, but the 8.5m which initially seemed like a bargain is now better spent elsewhere.

Key Fixtures:

Chelsea v Leicester

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side looked good away to Burnley, so expect big things from their big players as they take on Leicester in their first home game. It might be worth captaining Diego Costa, Eden Hazard, or Cesc Fabregas if you have them.

Swansea v Burnley

Swansea were excellent at Old Trafford last week, and they now host Burnley who won't be push-overs, but may struggle to get a hold of the game. Wilfried Bony, Gylfi Sigurdsson, and Ki Sung-Yueng, are worth a close look, and even Lukasz Fabianski might be worth a go.

Man City v Liverpool

This could really go either way. It could be an absolute goal-fest with two free flowing attacking sides running amok, or it could be a dull, low-scoring affair. Chances are both teams will find the net, so defenders on each team should be given careful consideration. Edin Dzeko and Daniel Sturridge will surely have their chances, but can they take them?
