According to Twitter user @SoftFirstTouch the line has been associated with Luis Suarez for quite a while, with Kenny Dalglish apparently having used it at some stage.

My favourite comment so far; "Luis Suarez; He could nutmeg a mermaid" #class

A fantastic/ terrible Luis Suarez was unfurled at Anfield tonight. A clever and hilarious/ cringy and unfunny tribute to Liverpool striker/ menace. The early word on the internet is good, however. The test audience appear to like it. And here it is. Terrace wit.
It turns out tonight's Suarez banner was a scandalous instance of plagiarism. Thanks to Joe McCormack for pointing out that Daniel Taylor was the true author. Has he any recourse?
@ballsdotie Those fans have robbed both @DTguardian and Adnan Januzaj there. pic.twitter.com/0mnMCZIfLT
