German international Mario Götze has decided to auction off the boot that won the World Cup for charity. The Bayern Munich playmaker wrote himself into football history in Rio in July when he stepped off the bench to sweep Germany into the lead against Argentina in extra time and now he has decided to use the boot that hit the winner for a great cause.
Götze intends to donate the money raised from auctioning off the boot to the charity "A Heart For Children". He told Bild:
“I have never washed the shoe, It is still in the same condition as it was in Rio, when I left the stadium with it.
“There is still grass on it. I have never put the boot on after the final. I kept it safe at my house.“
“The one who makes the largest donation to A Heart for Children in the seven days before the TV gala gets my World Cup boot!”
A great gesture.
