Steve Winter, the manager of Southern League Premier Division side Chippenham, has been sacked while he was on his surprise 40th birthday holiday.

His wife had whisked him off to Egypt for a couple of weeks and this had been arranged earlier in the season.

In his absence, his Chippenham boys lost 9-0 and currently sit fourth bottom in the League. Not even Rock of Gibraltar had that impact on United's form in 2004 and 2005.

While the club have been lashed for insensitivity, we have to take the Chairman's side here. This man chose Egypt over Chippenham and paid the price.
